A Thousand Arms curates two compilations per calendar year featuring post-rock music from all corners of the world.  All compilations are split into two sides, not only to make the playlist more listenable, but also to provide the listener the opportunity to compare and contrast the music contained within each side.  The Open Language compilations feature bands from the United States on Side A while Side B features bands from the rest of the world.  The Hemispheres compilations feature bands from one hemisphere (Northern/Western) on Side A while Side B features bands from the other hemisphere (Southern/Eastern). 

Instrumental music spans the globe and, because of the sparsity of lyrical content, the listener can easily access the band's artistic expression without constriction from language barriers.  In many ways, the world-wide post-rock scene operates like a local music scene and A Thousand Arms compilations are put together to continue to foster and grow this community by providing a conduit between bands and fans that may not exist otherwise.
